My husband and I had driven all over Ireland in a rental car prior to spending our last 3 nights in Ireland at Gleesons. Gleesons had a free parking lot, which is not the case at all Irish hotels. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable-after 10 nights at various B&B/hotels all over Ireland, we SO appreciated a plush, comfortable mattress, hot water, dual head shower, and quality toiletries! BUT what made Gleesons a real standout is that it is a hub for the community. The pub is bustling nightly with neighborhood folks. We got to experience a local pub environment for the first time ever! There are very few tourists in the neighborhood-likely because it’s a neighborhood and there aren’t a bunch of hotels. Every night, rather than going elsewhere for dinner, we were excited to come back to Gleesons and feel a part of the vibe of the pub and restaurant. The food was fantastic-not fancy-just tasty, well-prepared, and reasonably priced. One of the nights, Gleesons hosted a local family dinner after a funeral. I bring it up because it was such a “homey” “normal” event. We just felt very comfy here! On our last day, we’d taken a cab from downtown Dublin. I left my phone in the cab, and we had no idea what cab number it was. We called the cab dispatch, and they couldn’t find any cab at the address where I could see my phone was located. When a server heard of my problem, she had the bartender search through the exterior camera footage to find the cab license plate number, and they called the police. The cab driver was contacted, and he brought my phone back at 9 pm that night! That’s the level of kindness you can expect at Gleesons. You’re not a customer. You’re a friend, a fellow human, and you get the experience of belonging to their little, warm, Irish, community. I wholeheartedly recommend Gleesons, with the only reservation, that in doing so, it’ll be overrun with tourists next time I visit. 5 stars all around!!! Marhya, USA
